Jamaica Public Library will hold its third annual used book sale as part of the Highway 141 Garage Sales from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4 in the shelter house at the Jamaica City Park on Main Street. Jamaica Public Library will be selling quality used hardcover books in addition to an assortment of paperback books and CDs. Join the Perry Chamber of Commerce for the 2nd Annual Chamber Open Golf Outing on Friday, Aug. 4. This is a 9-hole best-ball tournament with scramble start and two tee times (9 a.m. and 1 p.m.). A member luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., which is open to all. The cost for the tournament is $150 for a team of four and $40 for an individual. Come join local Adel businesses for sidewalk sales on Aug. 4-5. Sales will be held from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4 and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5. Participating businesses include A You’re Adorable, Adel Health Mart, Azaela Lane, Iconic Apparel and Real Deals - Adel.

Join the Grimes Lions Club for a free-will donation community breakfast before you head out to the 141 Garage Sales. The menu includes biscuits and gravy, French toast, sausage and eggs.

The 2023 Adel Parks and Rec Power Wheels Nationals presented by Alley Auto Sales and BigDeal Car Care is slated for Aug. 5. Race day registration will be from 9-10 a.m. with races beginning at 11 a.m. Races will be held for ages 2-7. The divisions include Limited Pro Stock - ages 2 to 4 and Pro Stock - ages 5 to 7. Community power wheels will be available for kids who don't have one but still want to participate. At the conclusion of the event, all 25 power wheels will be given away via raffle. Helmets and seatbelts are required and local mechanics will be inspecting vehicles the day of the event. Trophies will be handed out to the top three in each class. Every child that participates will receive a certificate for a free kids ice cream cone, brought to you by Billy’s Ice Cream Store and Kuder Incorporated. Come relax after a day of 141 Garage Sales and Woodward Public Library's book sale. Join us for dinner and Picket Fence ice cream while learning about the trucks in our community. Finally, head into the United Methodist Church to check out talents of members of our community. Food and trucks will be available from 4-6 p.m., followed by the talent show from 6-7 p.m. This is a free event for all ages.

5-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 at Meek Park, Minburn.

The Meet Me in Minburn series will wrap up with a free concert on Saturday, Aug. 5. The outdoor skating rink will be open with free skate rental. A free-will donation meal of burgers, brats and sides will be served from 5-7 p.m. by Minburn Fire and Rescue. Jake Kemble and Kick will perform from 7-9 p.m.

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7 at Woodward Social Center.

The Woodward Social Center will serve a luncheon on Monday, Aug. 7. The menu will include hot turkey sandwiches, mashed potatoes and gravy, veggie tray and dessert bars. A free-will offering will be taken to support the Woodward Public Library.

7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 at ADM High School.

The 2023 ADM Athletic Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10 during the ADM All Alumni Reunion. This event is open to the public and free to attend. The Class of 2023 ADM Athletic Hall of Fame includes Brett Glenn, Class of 1985; Jared Grove, Class of 2012; William Kimber, Administrator; Robert Liston, Class of 1962; Bruce Pinkerton, Class 1979. The inductees will be honored at the ADM Alumni Association All School Reunion on Aug. 10 in the 8-9 Commons, with the formal ceremony that evening at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Aug. 11-12 in Adel.

Adel's annual Sweet Corn Festival will return on Aug. 11-12. The event kick off on Friday, Aug. 11 with the husking of the corn starting at 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot at 10th and Prairie, followed by the princess contest at 6:30 p.m. The festivities continue on Saturday, Aug. 12 with a 5k run/walk at 7:30 a.m. The parade will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by free sweet corn, free entertainment, sand volleyball and bags tournaments, car show, fun zone, street dance and more. The 3rd annual Charlie Brewer Memorial Fun Run will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12. You've Got a Friend in Me will be giving back to the community since funds have been raised for the scholarship up to his graduating class. The group will be helping out by supplying school supplies, coats, hats, gloves, snow pants, snow boots; supporting Beaver Creek with the food on their tournament; supporting the Woodward library program and more. Charlie has a smile that is contagious and loves all things in life. He always thinks of others before himself. This is why the group is giving back to the community in his name. So come run off some energy and bring the kiddos for some fun. In addition to the 1-mile walk or 5K run, the event will feature bounce houses, carnival games, Brewer ball, cake walk, ring toss, face paint and temporary tattoos, sidewalk chalk, raffle prizes, Vintage Road Coffee Co. and The Parlor. The annual Trent Miner Memorial Parent/Child Golf Tournament will return on Sunday, Aug. 13. The first parent/child session (13 years or younger) starts at 9 a.m. with a cost of $15 per person. The second parent/child session (14 years and older) starts at 1 p.m. with a cost of $30 per person. A parent can also be any relative. A meal is included with registration. Silent auction items and raffle prizes will also be available. Proceeds will go to the Trent Miner Scholarship Fund, Make a Wish and CaringBridge.
